Knowing where to look for your first opportunity in the online advertising industry can be daunting. With so many different job sites, company types and roles available, it can be hard to know where to start. Well fear not because we’ve pulled together a handy list of some of the most exciting opportunities in the industry for you; whether you are looking for work experience, a grad scheme, internship or even an apprenticeship scheme – this list has it all.

Bauer Academy

Bauer Academy are a unique training provider owned by, and located inside, one of the world’s biggest media businesses. It delivers apprenticeship standard training and are on the register of Government approved apprenticeship training providers. It also creates and runs powerful community projects for private and public sector clients including The Prince’s Trust, The Rank Foundation and The Big Lottery Fund.

Brixton Finishing School

Winner of Britain's Best Digital Skills and Inclusion project 2019 this free, 10-week course transforms raw talent into entry-level candidates for a spectrum of ringfenced roles at big-name sponsor companies across the digital, media and creative industries. Our focus is BAME/Female/Neurodiverse/Income Challenged individuals who want to accelerate their digital, creative and professional skills. It's taught by the best in the industry through a series of lectures, masterclasses, 'real world' experiences and Google online learning. Bursaries are available to fund living costs whilst you study. Our 2018 cohort had 95% employment 12 weeks after graduation.

The Code

The Code stands for Creativity, Opportunity, Diversity, and Empowerment. It brings together the power of people and networks, to make a positive impact on society and the next generation of talent. Creative Mentor Network

Creative Mentor Network (CMN) is a London-based charity with a mission to make the creative industries more socio-economically diverse and inclusive through mentoring. Over a 16-week period, mentors are trained in coaching skills for effective leadership. Mentors embed and refine these skills throughout the programme in 1:1 sessions with mentees (aged 16-24).

Partners include Sony Music, Sky, Soho House, Havas, Global Media and M&C Saatchi.

Global Academy

Global Academy is a unique school for Year 10 to Year 13 students. It specialises in broadcast and digital media and provides students with the technical skills needed to succeed in the industry. Graduates go onto employment or further training in the industry at companies like Global, BBC, Facebook and Google.

Immediate Media

Immediate Media Co is an award-winning special interest content and platform company. It is one of the biggest consumer media businesses in the UK and one of the largest magazine media publishers. Its purpose is to create compelling content on platforms that enhance the way people engage with what they love.

Generation Media

We host our GeneMachine process for all new graduate starters. This includes welcome drinks before their start date, a designated buddy as well as objectives setting for their first 3 months within the company to fully integrate them in the business. All graduates have the opportunity to complete IPA Digital, Facebook and Google exams to ensure continuous learning and development.

Google Apprenticeship

As a Digital Marketing Apprentice at Google, you will join the Sales or Marketing teams for a 15-month placement. Alongside this, you will study towards a Level 3 Digital Marketing qualification delivered by Google’s academic partner WhiteHat. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of Googlers to solve real life problems while developing and learning from world-class digital marketing leaders.

Applications open in October 2019 for an October 2020 start.

Social Chain

As an accredited education provider, Social Chain work with the education authorities to create best in class learning schedule for social and digital marketing. It is set to be the first company to provide a qualification in podcasting, TikTok and other aspects of social media marketing.

None of this will be provided in a classroom – all learning will be facilitated in practical environments. The whole programme will also touch on life skills including presentation, welfare, money management and mental health alongside more traditional aspects.

Alongside your day job you'll be studying for a relevant qualification, learning new skills, receiving support and training from various sources within The Telegraph and building your network.
