2021 brought many milestones for NewsGuard. We rated (or re-rated with updates) 7,466 news sites, led 1,801 sites to improve their editorial practices, cataloged 762 false narratives as misinformation fingerprints, and served more than 7 million library patrons with our Reliability Ratings for news sites. 

These milestones are just the beginning. 

In this report, you'll find:

  • An overview of our constantly expanding partnerships, from technology platforms to advertising companies, in which NewsGuard's data protects users, brands and democracies from harmful misinformation.

  • Updates on our continued efforts in media literacy in schools and over 800 public libraries (the latter on a pro-bono basis), and with 25 global research institutions, licensing our data to empower research on online engagement with news sources, how misinformation narratives spread, and other misinformation trends. 

  • A summary of our work investigating false narratives surrounding political elections across our markets, issuing frequent reports to regulators and the World Health Organization, and documenting the most common harmful hoaxes as myths in our Misinformation Fingerprints database.

Looking ahead to 2022, NewsGuard plans to launch in new countries and begin rating television programs as we grow our teams of trained journalists around the world to scale our operations and keep on top of the ever-evolving threats of misinformation on behalf of our partners, clients, and users.
